The Watch

The Seamaster is their longest-running product  It was introduced in 1948 and was loosely based on models made for the Royal Navy at the back end of World war 2. The Seamasters main stand out feature was the inclusion of an O-Ring gasket which improved its water resistance. The case withstood a depth of 60m and extreme temperatures which the engineers proved by strapping one to the outside of an aircraft over the North pole in 1956. This 1958 Seamaster comes just after that epic journey. Its 34mm stainless steel case is polished and has tapering lugs with a subtle curve making it a comfortable fit on the wrist. A polished bezel encircles the domed crystal. Its white dial has slim chamfered indexes, Alpha hands with lume infill and a sweeping seconds hand. Without a date window, we have a simple yet functional dial. On the reverse, a seahorse on the case back represents Neptune the God of the sea. It was conceived by Pierre Borie after seeing a picture of Neptune riding a chariot pulled by seahorses. It is the reason why the seahorses are wearing a bridle Inside an Automatic Omega Cal. 501  20 Jewels 19800 Beats per hour. Fitted on a quality tan leather strap.

Personal Note

Can you actually ever go wrong with a vintage Omega Seamaster? I think not! This fantastic example features its original dial, which took a second look as the dial is so clean and very well preserved. The way the 34mm Seamaster case wears is amazing, also with the tone of the dial the choices for straps is almost limitless!
