Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Mido box or paperwork. The watch comes paired on a nice fitting leather strap which suits the watch perfectly. The watch is from Circa. 1950s and is sold in worn, vintage condition. But as you can see overall the watch is great condition for its age and all original too. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.


The Watch

Mido was founded by Mr. Georges Schaeren in Switzerland in 1918. His first watches represented car radiators in shape and were advertised as the motorist's watch. One made in Platinum was given to the King of Spain in 1927. In 1934 we saw the launching of the MULTIFORT line that marked a milestone in the history of MIDO watches. It was one of the first antimagnetic watches with a self-winding movement and built-in water- and shock-resistance. The Multifort was the best selling MIDO watch from the 1930s to the 1950s. In 1954 Mido introduced the Powerwind Automatic which reduced the winding components from 17 to 7 a true feat of engineering.

Here we have a 37.5mm round stainless steel case. Curved tapered lugs with a thickness of 10mm and lug to lug length of 45mm ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. Polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp lines. A polished bezel holds a domed crystal. The white dial has an attractive cross and circular texture, applied arrow point indexes, the faceted sides catch the light as you rotate your wrist. Steel dauphine hands with a fine sweeping center seconds hand complete the dial. At 12 o’clock an applied “Mido” with “Multifort” printed underneath.  At 6 o’clock “Powerwind” is printed. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic Mido Cal. 0917P, 17 Jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. The rotor is coated in black rhodium plating and was in production from 1952 until 1960. The watch comes fitted on an 18mm leather strap.


Personal Note

One from the personal collection, unfortunately, I cannot keep them all! This example is incredible, as I said in a video if this watch had Omega on the dial and from the same era and the same size it would be at least double the price of this! Yet the design of this is superb, the case shape wears beautifully, the dial is stunning... It is an all-round PERFECT watch for me.
