Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Yema signed case and signed guarantee card. The watch comes paired on its original H Link bracelet with all links present. The watch is from December 2019 and is in worn condition but overall very well looked after as you can see by the photos. The watch comes with its manufactures warranty which is transferable to the new owner by simply possessing the card in the package.

The Watch

Yema was founded in 1948 by Henry Louis Belmont after he came top of his class at the National Watchmaking School of Besancon in 1931. The legend goes that the name Yema was created by a teenager's imagination who entered a competition run by Henry. 1963 saw the introduction of the Yema Superman essentially made for dive professionals it had a 300-meter water resistance. Its bezel lock system made it quite unique and was soon adopted by the French Air force for its pilots. In the 1960s Yema became the leading watch exporter in France selling more than 500,000 watches a year in over 50 countries. In 1982 Yema went to space with Yema Spationaute 1.

Based on their iconic diver of 1963 it is limited to 100 pieces. This brushed 39mm 316L stainless steel case is round with gently tapering lugs that transition as one. Giving the watch an elegance on the wrist as the lugs curve over your wrist. A 49mm lug to lug length gives the watch a real presence. On the right side, we have a signed screw-down crown with crown guards. The slim uni-directional bezel has a black and red insert giving its name “The Coke” with white 24-hour numerals, The glossy effect replicates the Bakelite resin inserts of the original. At 3 o’clock the bezel-lock system is also present, to release the bezel unscrew the crown turn the bezel to the desired position then push the crown and screw-down to lock it once again. A double domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The matte black dial has applied disc and baton indexes filled with C1 Super-LumiNova marking the hours. At 3 o’clock a date window. A sword hand for the minutes alongside an arrow hand for the hours with Super-LumiNova® infill. The center second hand has a lume filled tip. A center GMT hand has a red-framed triangle lumed tip, making it clear which time zone you are looking at. The central 24-hour hand is quick-set using the crown in its second position and is conveniently independent of the central hour hand, which is set using the crown in the third position. Adjusting the 24 hour hand thankfully does not cause the movement to “hack” or stop, so timekeeping will remain accurate when traveling. The dial is legible in all types of lighting situations thanks to the Super-LumiNova. On the reverse, you can see the engraved Yema coat of arms in all its glory, details of the watch, and its limited number out of 100 is also engraved into the screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic ETA 2893-2, 21 Jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. It has both hacking and hand winding for your convenience. Fitted on its 19mm Yema H-Link brushed stainless steel bracelet complete with a divers extension and a vintage Yema logo on the double folding clasp.

Personal Note

Having owned and sold a few vintage Yema it was about time I got my hands on some of their latest releases, whilst definitely inspired by their past the new releases feel very much like a modern watch in their own rights. This GMT fits beautifully on the wrist with its dimensions and being limited to only 100 is super cool too, don't miss out on this opportunity to own a cool GMT!
