The Watch

This limited edition of 1723/1,999 pieces is a joint special project to help preserve the world's largest source of freshwater, Lake Baikal, in Russia. The muscular profile leads to a lug-to-lug length of 50mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. A signed screw-down crown protected by crown guards. A unidirectional stainless steel bezel with deep knurling for grip and a blue ceramic 60-minute dive insert deep engraved. The Sapphire crystal is domed on both sides with AR coating on the inside protecting the blue Fumé dial, which goes from white in the centre to deep blue around its edge, reflecting the frozen Lake Baikal with broad faceted baton Rhodium plated indexes filled with Super Luminova luminescence marking the hours. The handset used has sword-shaped Rhodium-plated hour and minute hands filled with Super Luminova luminescence, along with a centre-sweeping second's lollipop hand. A date window at 6 o’clock has a contemporary design of black numerals against a white background. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with a depiction of the frozen lake in the centre and the watch details and a limited number engraved around its edge, inside, we have the automatic Oris Cal. 733, based on the Sellita SW200-1, the balance has a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, and the movement contains 26 jewels. The watch comes fitted with a chunky 12.5mm integrated brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet with a push-button release folding clasp and dive extension and it also comes with its Oris presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
Oris never disappoints with their limited editions, especially as they are in response to real-world events, this Lake Baikal edition was a joint special project to help preserve the world's largest source of freshwater, Lake Baikal, in Russia. There is no doubt this is one of the most striking dials on an Aquis with the most vibrant and bright blue transitioning to a smoky white centre, truly incredible on and off the wrist. I would not hesitate to book an appointment to see this incredible watch in the metal for yourself!
The Brand
Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein. They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925, they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches, which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. In 1982, Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog led a management buyout from Swatch Group. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.
