The Watch

Incipio watches were released in the early 1990s by TokeiBegin Magazine. (Tokei is Japanese for “watch”). They were offered to customers of the TokeiBegin magazine who entered a one entry lottery draw to buy the limited run of between 200-300 watches. This watch is clearly a 1:1 homage to the Rolex ref:1016. There are two versions produced, one with an ETA 2824-2 Automatic and a slightly different dial, and this one which has a Manually Wound ETA 2801-2 which appears less common.

The 36mm stainless steel Oyster style case has polished and brushed surfaces that transition with crisp edges. The tapering lugs with a lug to lug length of 44mm and a thickness of 13.5mm wear similar to a 1016 and are just as comfortable on the wrist. A polished bezel holds a domed acrylic crystal. The matte black dial has an outer minute track with long lume coated lines. A lumed triangle at 12. Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9 are coated in aged luminescence with batons in between marking the hours. Cathedral hands are complemented by a lollipop center seconds hand coated in aged luminescence. The text is printed in white with a crown above Incipio. On the reverse, a coin-edged screw-down case back. Inside a Manually Wound ETA 2801-2, 17 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. This movement can be found in MeisterSinger, Hamilton and Laco watches as well as many others. The watch comes fitted on its original 20mm brushed Oyster style stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no box or paperwork. The watch comes paired on its original 20mm Oyster style stainless steel bracelet and folding clasp. The watch is from Circa. 1990s and is sold in worn condition, but overall very fair condition as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months Non-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

"Homages", a forever debated subject and something we will never stop discussing... This is super cool either way, an original 1016 in fair condition will set you back £15,000+ minimum, so I am all for a homage that offers something unique and this really does with the story behind it! I think it's super cool and very faithfully done, so I'm all for it! The question is, are you?
