The Watch

Founded in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot at 22 in Le Locle Switzerland. In November 1999 they were purchased by LVMH Group joining brands like TAG Heuer and Hublot. They continue to manufacture their own in-house movements. Over the years Zenith has won over 2300 awards for precision.

This 1959 Zenith has a 35mm stainless steel case. Elegant curves down the sides create a sophisticated design, be sure to check out that interesting bevel to the case. Polished and brushed surfaces across the case along with chamfered edges that transition to tapering lugs. A lug to lug length of 43mm ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side, a signed crown with the “z” within a 5 pointed star. Its stepped polished bezel holds a domed crystal. The beige coloured dial has applied Arabic numerals at 12, 3 and 9 with fine arrowhead indexes and lume pips for the hours. At 12 0’clock the characteristic 5 pointed star and “Zenith”. Elegant Dauphine hands have lume infill. At 6 o'clock a sub-seconds register. On the reverse a screw-down case back. Inside a quality Manually Wound Zenith Cal. 40, 17 Jewels, 18,000 beats per hour. The movement was manufactured from 1947 until 1963. Fitted on a 19mm quick release Brown leather strap with white stitching.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold as "Watch Only" and therefore comes with no original Zenith box or Zenith paperwork. The watch comes paired on an aftermarket brown leather strap with quick-release lugs. The dial is a refinished dial, but appears to be refinished 15/20 years ago and has developed its own patina. The lume has been created in both the hands and on the dial to be aged and look as if it could if the watch had its original lume plots, this has been faithfully and honestly done. The case is in great condition and has been professionally refinished. The movement does come with the KibbleWatches 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

I'll forever say it, but vintage Zenith is SO underrated! The quality of not only the watches but their mechanism is incredible, this caliber is so well built that they used it for many many years. The case on this particular Zenith is what drew me, I just had to have it because I have never seen a case like it, it really is the star of the show here! Well that and the literal star on the dial and crown, cheesy... Plus being from 1959, it is super early and being cased in 35mm it wears like a dream.
