The Watch
Here we have a 2023 Baltic Hermétique Tourer Brown Automatic Limited to 200 pieces, this time around Baltic has taken their design magic to bring us a highly legible rugged field/tool watch with distinctive vintage vibes. A curvaceous 37mm brushed stainless steel case sits on your wrist with tapered drilled lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a slim crown that sits flush with the case for a seamless profile. The stepped brushed and polished smooth bezel holds a double domed sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside for that vintage aesthetic, above a brushed matte rich chocolate brown and black sector dial. A black outer minute rail track surrounds three-dimensional 0.5mm thick applied 12, 3, 6 and 9 numerals, batons and pips made of moulded Super-Luminova C3 X1. Elegant polished steel syringe hands are filled with the same lume and are complemented by a lollipop sweeping second hand, in keeping with the vintage vibe. At noon we have the Baltic motif and at 6 o’clock “Hermetique 150m” completes this versatile tool watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the details of the watch engraved across it, inside an automatic Miyota Cal. 9039, 24 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this quality movement has hand winding and hacking seconds for your convenience. The watch comes paired with its original quick-release 20mm Baltic rubber tropic strap with a signed buckle, and this watch is sold with its original Baltic box and paperwork.
Personal Note
As of the time of this watch hitting the website, I believe this to be the first Baltic Hermétique to come up for sale on the pre-owned side and this one has been worn a handful of times at most. This Hermétique Tourer Brown in 37mm is a testament to what Baltic can achieve on a budget and I really do believe it easily gives watches 2/3 times its price a run for their money. I would not hesitate to add this to the collection whilst you can.
The Brand
Ettiene Malec, a Frenchman, founded Baltic in 2017. The name comes from his father’s birthplace in northern Poland near the Baltic Sea. His inspiration came after finding a suitcase full of his late father's watches with a notebook full of details about the watches. He soon after started to meet other collectors and started to collect himself. Then, seeing the huge interest in vintage timepieces, he completed a Kickstarter campaign with the Baltic HMS 001 and a Bi-Compax 001. Each watch is hand-assembled in France near Besançon. Today the brand continues to grow through its social media presence and its website, to offer contemporary designed, vintage-inspired timepieces.
